Our Packaging & the Environment
At Hillcroft we fully appreciate and applaud anyone who is concerned about their environmental impact. We would like to highlight a few points about the packaging we use when shipping goods to you.
We reuse any cardboard box we can and therefore need to use some packing material to insulate and protect the items inside the box, we have investigated many options for this and have chosen to use LockedAir Ultra-thin 98% air pillows to secure and insulate the items we ship, below are a few points about the reasons for this:
Environmental impact:
- Properly recycled plastic can be more eco-friendly than a similar paper product
- The air pockets we use are made from ultra-thin co-ex material (to reduce plastic used) and are fully recyclable at certain recycling centres across the country
- The weight/volume ratio of the air pocket void fill is greatly less than a paper-based product – this has an effect on the transportation of the product throughout its lifespan and ensures a lightweight shipment therefore reducing fuel usage
- If the goods are not so effectively protected in transit and arrive damaged, (aside from the commercial impact of returns, reputation and re-stocking) the impact on the environment to return items and re-send new is far higher
Product efficiency:
- A paper product system is bulkier than plastic, not so cost effective, requires more material to be used and is not such an effective bracing void-fill against impact – a very good product in its place, but not so much for the type of goods that we are sending out.
- Although the air pockets may seem bulky, for an average delivery, once these are deflated the remaining volume would fit in a teacup, unlike a paper product which retains most of its volume.
